About Rotary Mysore & our iconic projects

…serving the community since 1944

Rotary Mysore, a pioneer service organization of Mysuru, is into its 80th year. Coming under the world-wide organization Rotary International (RI) with the motto Service Above Self, Rotary Mysore was chartered on 4th July 1944 as the first club in the Rotary District. Ever since, it has been serving society in and around Mysuru - providing education & literacy, health care, shelter, youth welfare, women empowerment, safe drinking water, vocational training etc., and today has over 100 elite and committed members.

Rotary Mysore is strong in all avenues of service and has an excellent public image in Mysore. Some of its iconic projects are:

Rotary Children’s Library was the first of its kind in Southern India, marking the Golden Jubilee of RI in 1955. It has over 11,000 books and 30 Kindle e-Readers catering to a thousand kids from all over Mysuru. His Highness Sri Jayachamaraja Wodeyar, Maharaja of Mysore, as Patron-in-chief, donated a sum of Rs. 4000/- in the name of his family members.

Ideal Jawa Rotary School: Rotary Mysore and Ideal Jawa together established IJRS in 1969 to mark the Silver Jubilee of Rotary Mysore, with Mrs. Sheila Irani as the founder-principal. Today it has over 1700 students; while a total of over 50,000 students have successfully crossed its corridors.

Rotary Mysore Artificial Limb Centre: Started in 1998, RMALC has so far manufactured and freely donated custom-made 9300 prosthetic limbs (above knee, below knee, hands) through about 430 limb distribution camps for the deserving amputees.

Rotary Mysore Chandrakala Hospital Blood Bank: Established in 2005, over 16,000 units of blood have been collected and donated to the needy and to various hospitals including KR Hospital.

Rotary Mysore School Dattagalli: The RMS school is in its 8th year, has classes upto 8th std and has 419 kids with integrated curricular and co-curricular activities.

Special School for Special Children: Rotary Mysore and Thulir Charitable Trust together run the Rotary Mysore School for children with Autism. A separate Wing has been allocated.

JeevaRaksha Emergency Care Training Unit: Set up in association with Rajiv Gandhi UHS & SVYM. JeevaRaksha is a special-purpose vehicle with an Emergency Care Training centre and a Mobile training unit. We train healthcare personnel, students, public safety personnel and the public in basic life-saving emergency skills.

Rotary Mysore did yeoman service as the designated Covid Care Tele-Center by Mysore Corporation during Covid.

Rotary Mysore has a number of other projects and activities throughout the year. It has also always been in the forefront of initiatives to help mitigate calamities like floods, earthquakes and tsunamis.

Rotary Mysore promises to work with renewed vigor towards impact- creating projects and social activities for the betterment of the community.
